About My Drug Detox
The Phoenix Program at The Delray Center for Healing is home to some of the most cutting-edge, advance outpatient alcohol and drug detox treatments in the United States. Dr. Raul Rodriguez first started to offer outpatient detoxification in his private practice in Boca Raton in 2003. In private practice, Dr. Rodriguez incorporated the techniques he learned for inpatient drug detox at Jackson Memorial Hospital and modified them to meet the needs of patients on an outpatient basis. The program grew quickly following Dr. Rodriguez’s development of a 1-day rapid outpatient opiate detox. This was the first highly effective, safe, and affordable form of rapid opiate detox to be offered on an outpatient basis.
Following the success of the rapid outpatient opiate detox, protocols were soon developed to safely offer outpatient alcohol detox, as well as outpatient benzodiazepine detox. These treatment options immediately proved valuable, serving individuals who were unable to enter an inpatient detox and thus receive treatment. In fact, in most cases clients were able to detox more safely and more comfortably than they ever had in an inpatient setting. In over 10 years of professional practice, no client of Dr Rodriguez has ever experienced a withdrawal seizure while undergoing outpatient alcohol, benzodiazepine or barbiturate detoxification.
Outpatient opiate detox later experienced another major advancement with the approval of buprenorphine, in the forms of Subutex and Suboxone, for the treatment of opiate dependence. With the inception of buprenorphine for opioid use disorder treatment, Dr. Rodriguez developed new protocols that allowed for even more rapid patient stabilization, but now with a higher degree of comfort. The use of Subutex and Suboxone forever changed outpatient detox for opioids, and it provided an avenue for long-term relapse prevention and recovery maintenance when clinically appropriate.
Treatment After Outpatient Drug Detox
Equipped with multiple highly effective options for outpatient alcohol and drug detox, Dr Rodriguez turned his efforts to the psychological aspects of relapse prevention treatment. He started by offering relapse prevention group therapy based on the medical model of addiction, using cognitive behavioral principles. Relapse prevention group therapy at The Delray Center was the first viable option to traditional 12-step support offered in Palm Beach County, that did not contradict 12-step principles, and could be used with or without AA/NA involvement. Over the years, both the treatment team and the clinical services offered have grown exponentially, with increasingly specialized group therapy as well as highly structured outpatient clinical programs. Our facility now offers both a partial hospitalization program and an intensive outpatient program, in addition to the outpatient drug and alcohol detox.
Recently, My Drug Detox at The Delray Center has begun offering Sublocade, an extended-release subcutaneous injection of buprenorphine used to treat heroin, fentanyl, and prescription painkiller addiction. Sublocade is an excellent alternative to Suboxone sublingual films, as it eliminates the need for daily doses and is better for individuals who wish to participate in a transitional sober living program. In addition, we also offer naltrexone treatment and Vivitrol injections for patients completing an outpatient drug detox.
